About the Event
Merrion Square Open-Air Art Gallery is held every Sunday on the external railings of the beautiful Georgian Square in Dublin’s city centre. Founded in 1985, this weekly event is organized by Dublin City Council and provides a colourful, pleasant opportunity for visitors to not only view paintings but to also meet with the artists and learn about their work.
Artists are only licensed to exhibit original paintings, thus you can purchase original art directly from the artist. No commission is included in the price of the paintings so you will discover that prices are quite reasonable.
Most of the artists exhibiting on Merrion Square are full time professionals with a variety of genres on display from traditional to more contemporary and individual styles. Merrion Square Open-Air Art Gallery affords a weekly opportunity for artists to socialize, network and to gain from visitors, patrons and colleagues both encouragement and critique.
Merrion Square is one of Dublin’s largest and grandest Georgian squares.  On three sides are Georgian Houses and on the other the garden of Leinster House, and two National Museums. Many of the houses have plaques detailing the rich and famous who were once resident. The attractive central park features colourful flower and shrub beds, playground and many statues; look out for Oscar Wilde casually reclining on the rock!Â
